Dr. Bobby Halvorson is an educator, vocalist, recording artist, composer, arranger, producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Sacramento, California. Over the course of two decades, Halvorson has created a substantial and diverse body of original work that consists of compositions, recordings, performances, arrangements and orchestrations, musical theatre pieces, and concerts.
As a versatile vocalist, Dr. Halvorson has performed in a vast array of vocal styles ranging from classical to theatre to jazz to pop to metal to Tuvan throat-singing. He has spent years using himself as a test subject for finding new and interesting ways to use the human voice. He has performed both nationally and internationally with shows like Jomama Jones | Radiate and Harry Nilsson's The Point and has worked as a recording artist with Van Dyke Parks and comedian Tim Heidecker. His voice has been heard in performances in Mexico City at Radio UNAM and at Hai Yun Music School in Qingdao, China.
Halvorson earned his MFA and DMA from California Institute of the Arts majoring in music composition and vocal performance. He has been a music educator for over a fifteen years and taught numerous courses at Stanford University, California Institute of the Arts, AMDA - Los Angeles, Rio Hondo College and California College of Music where he held the position of Choral Department Chair. He is currently teaching voice and choir at American River College in Sacramento. He has taught courses ranging from fundamental to advanced music theory, music composition, arranging, songwriting, music history, world music, and ear-training. However, the bulk of his time as an educator has been spent studying and shaping the human voice.
As a voice researcher and educator, Halvorson has worked with hundreds of students from different ages, experience levels, cultures, and musical interests. Some of his past clients include Bryce Dallas Howard, Josh Gad, Angelito Garcia, and Daniel Alexander Jones.
